I was involved in a class competition for re-designing a logo for a local non-profit organization called Friends Of Kohler-Andrae State Park. They are located in Sheboygan, WI and work with the DNR with updates for the park.
The client asked us to re-design their logo with a modern, crisp and clean look. They did not have many guidelines but wanted a form of a bird and asked that the colors be representative of the park. We decided that greens, and tans would be best to represent the plant life and the sand.
Since I did not have many limitations I thought using a modern sans serif font would work perfectly for capturing the name. I then designed the logo on a bit of an angle to represent the sand dunes that are very prevalent at Kohler-Andrae State Park. The green border represents the sharp dune grass you may accidentally step on as you are trying to make your way to the beach.
I felt this logo exceeded my expectations because it morphed into something beyond what I thought I could create and does not look like any of my preliminary sketches.
Even though the client did not choose this particular logo, I feel like it captured all the aspects that they were looking for in a simple and modern package. This has been one of my most meaningful projects to date.
